Power Engineering Society established the Uno Lamm High Voltage Direct Current Award in 1981. Lamm learned to play the violin as a child and retained an interest in the performing arts throughout his life. He was married twice and had four children. He died in June 1989 and is best remembered as the Father of HVDC.

Abhay Kumar was awarded the IEEE PES Uno Lamm HVDC award for his contributions on the development and application of 800 kV Ultra HVDC technology at Atlanta, USA on August 6, 2019. The award was established to recognize leadership, innovation, vision and research excellence and is presented annually at the IEEE PES Annual Meeting. Over his nearly 40-year career in the field, Asplund has helped HVDC technology become the new standard for transmitting power reliably, below ground, and over long distances. He is a Swedish Electrical Engineer born on 22nd May 1904 in Sweden and died on 1st June 1989 in California. He completed his masters in “Stockholm at Royal Institute of Technology” in 1927. Dr. August Uno Lamm was one of the pioneer developers of mercury-vapor valves. In 1929 he was made manager of the project to develop a high-voltage mercury arc valve at ASEA.
